Race track hording isn’t a thing unless you are Roger Penske but it should be.
18 years ago while living in Pennsylvania I heard about an old kart track in the hills north of Carlisle that had been closed since the late 60s. A long time SCCA member gave me sketchy directions, I got in the XR4TI one day and went looking for it.
After about 3 hours we found the locked gate with the blue pole that I was told about, this was it! We jumped the gate and walked up a dirt “road” that would require a built off road rig to make it up. About a 1/4 mile later we stood on a flat hill top with a race track surrounding us. A 12 turn track with multiple configurations complete with apex curbs, a small pre-grid, and there were still buildings like the control tower, tech shed and what looked like a paddock style garage. While the track had seen better days it was still OK and all there, the buildings were decent too. I fell in love with the place, the idea of living there and having our own track was a dream come true. I spent months going through county records and trying to find the owner. When I did he refused to even have a conversation about selling. To bad because if he had I would still live there.
Every couple of years I spy on the place using Google Earth, today was that day. I am sad but yet happy to see there is now a house built there and it looks like the track has had some maintenance. Jealous!
